Caltech – Palomar Observatory
“Mark Optics had a close, professional interaction with Caltech senior astrophysics engineers to define telescope optical filter specifications, and subsequently devised a precise manufacturing plan to fabricate optical substrates for both the Caltech and Palomar telescopes.
The optical manufacturing plan had to account for a number of specific optics such as, high-tolerance linear characteristics required for the telescopes, including interferometry to ensure that transmitted wavefront error was to specification.
After painstaking efforts by the Mark Optics manufacturing team to craft a set of detailed process instructions to fabricate several identical optical substrates, they were able to ship each tested optical substrate ahead of schedule. In addition, Mark Optics saw a 100% yield with the manufacturing effort to fabricate these precise telescope optical filter substrates.”

“I was building a specialty microscope for imaging electrical activity in neural networks, and needed a custom prism for coupling in laser excitation. Mark Optics responded promptly to my inquiry, and worked closely with me to convert my idealized design into a sturdier, practical optic. They manufactured the pieces exactly to specifications, and shipped some pieces before adding an AR coating to assist with prototyping. They graciously sent extra pieces from the manufacturing run free of charge, and the microscope works great! The lab will definitely be back for future custom optic needs.”
